Principal Newsletter // August 15th, 2023

Dear Appleton Community,

What an exciting start! I am so proud of you! Our students, families, and staff all deserve a big pat on the back for the great first day we had. Our school theme this year is, “Let’s GO!” We really want to invite you into the school this year to volunteer, watch our outstanding music programs, party with the kids on holidays, and participate in the many PTA driven community events like our Carnival on Friday, September 8.

Seven of our classrooms had Aquos Smart boards installed this summer thanks to the generous donations of our families and the hard work of our PTA. Last summer we had 18 for a grand total of 25! This $50,000+ purchase is the largest ever by our PTA and gives our students and teachers a great classroom technology tool with applications in all curriculum areas. We are so thankful for your generosity and are looking forward to using these great resources.

Our school is known for our pumped up assemblies to kick off each year. This year our assembly on Friday, Aug. 18, will be led by our new music teacher Jessica Hanley. Our guest speaker with be the science award winning Fruita Monument High School graduate, Aiden Lynch. Aiden doesn’t let a form of muscular dystrophy slow him down and he will surely inspire your students with his ideas on what it takes to be successful.  I’m sure it will be a great event to kick off the start of what will surely be a great year!

Go Bookworms!,

P.T.A. Needs You!

Appleton’s great reputation and student achievements are directly linked to the generous volunteers who give the gifts of time and effort. A great way to volunteer and serve our school community is to participate in PTA. Our first meeting of the school year is Thursday, August 24 at 4:10pm in the Appleton library. If you are a parent of a kindergartner or first grader your incentive to participate is that your child’s educational experience at Appleton will be directly and positively affected for 6 years to come. Our meetings last about one hour. Come dedicate a little time and find out what we are all about!

Check Out Appleton’s Facebook Page as a Great Source of Information and staying up to date with what’s happening around Appleton!

APPLETON FALL CARNIVAL!

Carnival Support - We Need Your Help!

The Appleton Carnival will be September 8.  This is one of Appleton’s traditional fun events that supports many programs within our school (like our new Aquos Smart boards).

If you can support the silent auction it would be greatly appreciated.  We are accepting items that you, a business, or organization you are associated with, are willing to donate.  Free services, gift cards, and goods are all appreciated.  More than 1,000 people will attend the carnival.  Donating an item from your business is a great way to advertise. Send in donations or call Corey Hafey 254-6400 for more information.

Carnival Committee Leader Needed:

Joy Zeller has supported our Carnival in a leadership role for several years but will be leaving Appleton when her daughter graduates from our school at the end of this year. She would love to pass on her knowledge of the Carnival to another person or even a team of two parents willing to support our school in this important Appleton tradition. She has left behind a great paper trail to support the next person and would love to have you shadow her this year so that the transition next year is seamless. This would be a great help to our school. Please contact her at: 970-200-6020 or Joyzeller1@gmail.com  if you have any questions or are interested.

Odds & Ends

  • Please write your child’s name inside their hoodies, jackets, and coats. At the end of the year we typically donate over 100 items to charity when we can’t find the owners.
