Dear Appleton Community…

Kids and choices

Sometimes kids make bad choices.  I know that’s not news to any of you parents out there.  We’ve all used our best speeches, motivators, and consequences to shape our kids.  Here at Appleton we try to keep the message very clear.  In fact, when a student has made a bad choice for the first time Mr. Witzel and I talk to them in our offices, the process is pretty simple.  First, we show them our Appleton Student/Parent Handbook.  We show them the high number of pages, little print size, and point out there are a lot of rules (probably too many to remember).  Then we tell them we have made the whole book really easy for them to understand. We point out that every page has two words centered by the page number.  The words are: RESPECT and EFFORT.    We then share how they could follow every rule in the book by just following these two:  #1. Demonstrate respect. &  #2. Give your best effort.  My hope is that before the student makes another choice they ask themselves; Is this respectful and my best effort?

Best Regards,

~ Corey

Carnival Support - Silent Auction Donations Needed!

The Appleton Carnival will be September 12.  This is one of Appleton’s traditional fun events that supports many programs within our school (like our Aquos Smart boards, reading and math intervention support, Artist in Residence, and building towards playground upgrades).

If you can support the silent auction it would be greatly appreciated.  We are accepting items that you, a business, or organization you are associated with, are willing to donate.  Free services, gift cards, and goods are all appreciated.  More than 1,500 people will attend the carnival.  Donating an item from your business is a great way to advertise. Send in donations or call Corey Hafey 254-6400 for more information.

And we have already had lots auction items donated! See the list at the bottom of the newsletter for examples of what others have donated to perhaps spur some ideas of your own!

Carnival Cake Walk Donations Needed

One of the most fun events at the Appleton Carnival is the CakeWalk. We need your donations to make that event happen. Please consider bringing a baked good (ex. cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, or breads) for the ever popular CakeWalk on the day of the Carnival or the day before.  A plate of 6 cupcakes, a dozen cookies or any store bought pastry are all great ways to support the Cake Walk. Thank You!

***BONUS***The top 5 cakes will be auctioned off LIVE! Decorate a cake special and it may be one of the top five.

Parking Auction Item = Fun & Convenience

By popular demand we are once again offering year long parking spots (2 will be offered) as fun silent auction items this year. How would you like to have your own parking space near the parent pick-up area reserved for you all year? Well, we are putting that package together for the silent auction. Just think, never having to guess if there is a parking spot available. Sounds like paradise doesn’t it?

This and many more fun silent auction items will be available at the famous Appleton Carnival on September 12.

Keeping Access Open

We need a special favor. Please keep the handicapped accessible ramp, that is directly in front of the kindergarten entrance to the office, open during drop off and pick up times. This supports our kids and families who need this access.

Additionally, please don’t park in the handicapped zones including the striped areas so all our Appleton Bookworms can have a safe unloading zone.

Finally, do not cut through the handicapped areas (striped zones, too) and endanger the exiting wheelchair bound students. Thank you.

City Market Fundraiser - Please Register Your Value Card

Simply by registering your City Market Value Card, our school can earn a percentage of all purchases you make. We have earned thousands of dollars for our PTA through this low effort moneymaker.
