Great Start – About 460 students this school year

We have a huge socio-economic diversity at Appleton
We All Belong (This year’s theme) & we will be better because you are here! Your children will be better because you are here!
PTA President: Jared Johnson
Hopes for this Year
Create a partnership between parents and staff!
This year we have an Appleton PTA Website (Fledgling Year). This is exciting – Check it out
AppletonPTA.com
Encourage everyone to join the PTA – Forms are available!
Membership Forms were also sent home in Tuesday Folders!
We are asking for your help – If parents don’t step in to help, the teachers do it all! We want our teachers focused on teaching our kids. Find a little piece of the puzzle that you can fit in and help out!
April F – There are lots of ways that parents can help out, so reach out and ask questions if you have any.
Financial Report: Brooke Bray
Our #1 expense is for instructional aides who help our students! This is money that we are handing straight to our kid’s education!
We spent the most money ever on the Smartboards – WOO HOO!!
Last year, we gave some love to our library! 😊
The #1 Goal with fundraising is to help our children’s education
Biggest Fundraiser of the year – Spell-A-Thon
Second Biggest Fundraiser – The Carnival
Hope everyone is coming! September 9th 5 – 8 pm
Next Biggest is our Community Partnerships – City Market, American Furniture, etc.
These are easy & free, so get signed up!!
We also have PTA Business Memberships that make good money for our PTA
If you own a business or know a business owner that might be interested in supporting Appleton students, please get the PTA Business Membership information to them.
Art Night – A fun family night, that also makes the PTA a bit of money
Corey spoke about the importance of art at Appleton!
Expenses: Instructional Aides, Artist in Residence, Art Heritage, etc.
Please see the expense report for specifics
Volunteer Needed:
Ornament Night with Angelo’s Pottery – Hilary Soria
November 15th – 5-7 pm
Do we want to continue this as a fundraiser OR as a community event?
Cost: Last year we sold ornaments for $10 (Around $1 - $2 profit). The cost of the ornaments has gone up. Do we want to charge $12?
We need a parent volunteer to head this up!! See Hilary or April if you are interested
Carnival Update – Friday, September 9th (5-8 pm)
We will have between 1,000 – 2,000 people come to our carnival
We are trying a food truck for dinner for the first time – The Hillbilly Grill (Owned by an Appleton Family!)
Menu came home this week with an order form
We need help dishing out the food – Please Volunteer!
We need tables and chairs donated for this evening
Parents suggested GJ City has a Block Party Trailer that might be available
Other parents offered tables & chairs. They spoke to Jared about this.
Who can be the contact point for this? J. Hildebrandt
Corey sent around a paper for names & numbers for people that can help out
Jared – Please help out! Connect with your child’s teacher to volunteer for this fun night
Jared – Kids have the time of their life at the carnival!! We are working to make it fun for the adults too!
We would like to have a Cornhole Tournament and the winning team would win a prize!
Email Jared Johnson if you have boards the he can use for the tournament
Questions & Additional Information about the carnival??
Is there a fund that we can donate for families that can’t afford to come?
YES!! We try to sponsor families who need it. Send in money marked “For Kids In Need” and we will get it to a family to attend
There will now be karaoke in the South Gym
Cake Auction – We do a live auction of cakes during the Silent Auction. So, if you are a cake decorator, please donate something to auction off!
Silent Auction – There may be a Reserved Parking Spot in the Appleton Parking Lot up for auction! How great would it be to have your very own, personal parking spot in the Appleton lot???
Vendor for T-Shirts: Jared/Heather
We had to get a new vendor, so that's why we haven’t ordered yet
Order Forms will be sent out in a couple of weeks
Restaurant Nights: Mary & Krisi
Chipotle – September 14th
Famous Dave’s – October 12th (12 – 8 pm)
Noodles & Company – January 18th (4-8 pm)

PTA Partnerships/Memberships - Kelli
John Zeller started this, and these partnerships make great money for the PTA
We need to “pass the torch” to a new parent that can shadow Kelli Lange this year and then take it over next year. Please contact her if you are interested.
If you know of any businesses that would be willing to support Appleton, please let Kelli know and she will reach out to them!
Other Thoughts, Ideas, Questions:
Jill Phillips (Appleton Music Teacher) -- We really need a sound system up in the South Auditorium. It would be great if some fundraising money could go to purchasing microphones, sound system, etc.
Cost? Approx. $8,000 +
Jared – Thinking about something more permanent (not portable!)
Jason Distel – Is there a list of Silent Auction Items?
Corey – A basic list was sent out Tuesday. More to come!
Brooke Bray – We still have classrooms without an Art Heritage Volunteer, so please consider becoming one.
Corey Hafey -- “I am so pleased that we had such great turnout!” There are so many ways to help out at Appleton – Just Do It! Reach out to classroom teachers for ways to become involved at Appleton. 😊
