Members Present: 13

Principal Update: Corey Hafey

  • Today was the Volunteer Luncheon. We are so happy to be able to honor our volunteers

  • CMAS is coming up. It’s a big deal – It's the one thing that the state measures, so it is a big deal!

    • Corey has been talking to 3rd – 5th grade students giving them a pep-talk

    • Appleton - 14 consecutive years of being a high-growth school

    • Camille Chapman is our CMAS Coordinator and is doing a great job! She manages all of the moving parts of CMAS and is amazing at doing that job. Thank You Camille!

  • Jeffery the Balloon Guy will be here

  • Face Painting will be in the main hallway

  • It should be a lot of fun!

  • Art Contest Judging – Next Monday at 10:00

    • Please come and help with the judging if you are available

PTA Board Nominees: Jared Johnson

  • Election vote during the April PTA Meeting

  • The Nominees are……

* Jared would like to have a new PTA President because a two-year term would put him into his daughter’s 5th grade year, and he want to be able to help in the transition and he can’t do that as well two years from now.

Questions:

* Joe K. – Is it worth doing a mass email to all PTA members to get nominations?

  • Brooke Bray – Is willing to continue as Treasurer. Wendi Ingle is interested in shadowing Brooke for this position

  • Joe finished a vacated term, but the VP will be reelected this year too

  • Clarify – If Joe K. moved to President, then we have an opening for VP? Yes!

  • Joe – “Jared is REALLY good at this job, and I would want to do a good job if take this over.”

  • Corey – I would nominate you (Joe) for President.

- We would need a VP

- These two positions work well in tandem and share responsibilities.

  • Corey will send out a couple of messages to families about PTA elections.

  • Voting will happen at the next meeting!

Spell-a-thon Coordinator needed

  • Spell-A-Thon is the biggest deal for Appleton! It is the way that Appleton is such a great school!

    • Library Refresh

    • Ga-Ga Pit

    • Reading Instructional Assistants

    • Playground Equipment

    • The list goes on and one!

  • This position could be one person, a couple of people, or a group that are willing to step up and help

  • Hilary and Brooke will help out with the transition

  • Question – What does the coordinator do?

    • Corey – Talk to Hilary Soria and she will tell you exactly what it entails

    • Group Effort – Megan Frahm, Laura Hughes, and Wendi Ingle are going to transition into this roll and do it together as a group. YAY!!

Beginning of School Year 2024-25: Jared Johnson

  • Just starting to think ahead for the beginning of the school year

  • Back to School Night – Let's have a big PTA presence for this night

    • Give directions, answer questions, etc.

    • PTA Members wearing buttons to identify themselves?

  • What can we do to make this night welcoming to families?

Treasurers Report/Budget: Brooke Bray  Corey Hafey

  • Joe – What is “Appleton Leadership?”

    • Instead of voting on every single teacher request at a PTA Meeting, this gives us flexibility to fund small requests and needs as they come up

    • Clarification about the purchase of Smartboards over the past two years

  • Everything is documented and Brooke has all receipts

Summer Reading Program: Krisi G.

    • Wednesday check-ins again? Every two weeks

    • Time? One and half hours for families to come in

    • Can we “advertise” the prizes to students before summer break? Try and get more kids interested in the Summer Reading Program.

      • Corey and Todd will build this up at the end of the school year!

Other Thoughts/Ideas/Suggestions/Concerns:

  • W. McComb – Intermediate tries to always provide snacks and a positive note to all students for each CMAS Testing time. At Scenic, the PTA took care of this. She wanted to ask about this for here at Appleton.

    • This is a suggestion for next year.

    • A great way to show the kiddos that the whole community cares about them and has faith in them.

  • Megan F – Muffins for Moms and Donuts for Dads Days – Could PTA do something like this?

    • Just a community event. Once per year.

    • This was a great idea and we will try and put it into place next school year

  • Parent Information Night – How can we incentivize that night to get more parents here that night?

Summer Reading Program: Krisi G.
