Principal Newsletter // OCTOBER 7th, 2025
Dear Appleton Community…
Conference Time!
Conferences are October 9, 10 & 16.
Did you know that greater than 95% of Appleton parents attend their child’s conference? Conferences are a great way to find out your child’s growth, what you can do to help your child, and give you reasons to hug your kid for their effort over the first quarter.
Halloween at Appleton
I know it is a little early but to help in your Halloween costume planning, here are the protocols for our Halloween celebration:
Parade - We will have a costume parade out on the north playground, weather permitting at 10:00 am on Friday, Oct. 31. In case of poor weather the parade will be canceled and will not be held in the hallways.
No weapons or facsimiles of weapons. This includes: all martial arts weapons, bullets, bullet casings, all guns, all bladed props (swords, knives, scythe, tridents, etc.), bows and arrows.
Parents/Guardians - Parents are allowed to participate in person at the parties and the parade. Parents will be asked to sign into the parade (a sign-up table will be set up on the north playground and for parties).
PTA Adds Childcare to Increase Meeting Participation
Let’s say you want to come to the PTA meeting next week on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 4:10 but you are wondering how to keep your little ones quiet during the meeting? Well, wonder no more! The PTA is offering childcare during the meeting for students who are potty trained and older. A loving staff member will take the kids to the gym during the PTA meeting for activities, a snack, and some fun. Then when the meeting is over, pick up the kids and feel great about helping the PTA at no cost to you.
Attendance Comparison
Appleton students missed 358 days for the month of September. This is a big jump compared to last year’s September which was at 283.
Did you know…
Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school.
By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
