Meeting notes from JANUARY 23rd Meeting
Appleton PTA News
JANUARY 23rd, 2023
Introductions
Members Present: 16
Roxy Fanning: Possibility of doing a golf tournament fundraiser. Get together/fundraiser. Talked with Joe at Adobe Golf Course. They charge $60 per player: Including all the amenities. Minimum of 40 people. Everyone would be rotating. It takes 5 hours and it is a shotgun start. Sponsors could have a sign at each hole. Raffles and door prizes. Too much work or worth it?
Corey: Takes leg work, but a good fundraiser. Sponsorships for holes and T-boxes. We need people to support and commit. We would like to do it in the spring because many people would like to golf. It also can be done in the summer.
Christina-Could we do other locations also?
Joy: We want to make sure it is not on the backs of three people. Maybe in the future, we could replace it with something?
Jared: There may be people that would really like to volunteer for this type of event.
Corey: Things to think about. There are costs of prizes. If you know someone who is passionate about golf, we would be happy to get their name and we can get in contact with them!
Jared: Young Life has done this fundraiser before, and he thought he could talk with them to get an idea.
Principal’s Update –
Corey- Thank you so much PTA for the monetary gift and everything you do for our teachers! We really appreciate it!
Lions Club Grant - The Lions Club granted us around $3,000 for the sound system (PTA will be reimbursed for sound system expenses). However, there are some conditions.
We need to provide 20-25 cakes for their cake booth at their Carnival on February 18th, 2023. I'm hoping we can create a signup and get Appleton families to make the cakes and deliver them to our school on Friday, Feb. 17th. Should we use a sign-up genius online form?
Tuesday folder and sign-up genius.
We will put up some signage in the south gym recognizing the Lions Club grant for the sound system. (I will add it to the parent newsletter, as well.
Speakers are on the floor but will be put up higher to spread the sound.
We are to have a float or marchers in the Lions Club parade on Feb. 18 with signs or placards identifying Appleton as a grant recipient. I'm thinking I have some large signs made from our paper rolls by students and staff. Then I can tape them to my truck and drive in the parade (keep it simple).
We will offer to sell Lions Club Carnival tickets at Appleton. I will advertise this in the newsletter and explain why we are doing it and then our office staff will support the transactions.
Questions or thoughts?
Jared: Do you need help Corey?
Corey: I will need help with sign-up genius. Laura said she can help.
Can we do store-bought cakes? Corey will get clarification on that.
MTSS Stipend
Corey: One committee we have in our building is MTSS. We have a lot of meetings to help students. Barb Williams has been the chairperson for many years. She is an outstanding organizer. She has to do a lot of communicating with staff. A staff member recommended that we should go back to the stipend.
Corey: We are in a unique place with our PTA. I think we should do a 500-dollar stipend. That is what it was 10 years ago. 500 dollars shows we appreciate what she does every week. Barb did it even when she wasn’t paid.
Laura: I would support that 100%.
Sheila: I move to motion giving her 500 and making it a line item on our expense report per year.
Jared: How long has the district stopped supporting it?
Corey: 7 to 8 years and Barb has been doing it the whole time. We have a motion.
Camille Champan seconds.
Motion Passes.
Financial Report – Brooke-Not here.
Jared: Not a lot has happened since our last meeting. We opened a check from American Warehouse for $1353.
Main sponsors: American Warehouse, City Market, and Amazon Smiles. Amazon smiles are discontinuing. They will send a final check. We are looking at 300 dollars and then it will end.
We do not have as many volunteers that we have had in the past.
Art Night/Carnival 2024 will need new people to help run those committees.
Auction help next year.
Art night is March 3rd, 5:30-8:00. Art night has a smaller action.
February 3rd: Joy is having a meeting at Starbucks to talk about Art Night and anyone who would like to help. PTA will buy a Starbucks for anyone who comes to that meeting to learn how they can help!
Joy: Is the Art Night auction too much to get donations? Art donations are at both silent auctions. Joy gets all the auction items. 2024 Joy will need some help.
Sarah: Should we put committee help in Tuesday Folders?
Joy: Yes, I think that's the best way.
Corey: I move that we buy a coffee for anyone who comes to Starbucks with Joy to talk about Art Night.
Joy: Second
Motion Passes.
Jared: We want to get a committee around our business sponsorships. We want to change the felt value. Should we do different signs and placement of signs? If you would like to be on that committee, we would love some help with that.
Checklist for Committees that people would like to join.
Jared: We can revamp, focus on Art Night, and then send out another one to let people know where we need help on committees.
Volunteers Needed – April-Not here.
Business Sponsorships Committee – April
Committee Updates
Restaurant Nights – Krisi/Mary-
Noodles: $ 116
Hillbilly Grill: Feb 22nd all-day event at the all. Special Appleton Menu. Pre-order or come to the mall. She will get us all the information we need.
$ 250 check from Smoking Oak.
Follow-up Items
Any updates on the potential cost of purchasing additional decodable books or the costs for seven more Aquos boards? Both items were brought up as needs at our last meeting when discussing possible uses of our Spell-A-Thon money. Corey will come back with more information on both books and Aquos boards.
Other Ideas or Thoughts:
Jared: I want to keep pushing on new playground equipment. Jared will head up that plan. We are looking at the little playground. 30,000-100,000. It would be a phased-out approach. Grants?
Demographer: An article in the Daily Sententail said we are losing a lot of kids due to moving, low birth rate, older population, etc. He projects a slide down in the number of students in schools.
Two schools will keep growing: Appleton and Scenic. We are currently filling out 97% of the seats in our school. We project 100% in a year or 2. in 2030: about 510 students.
We may possibly change our boundaries in the future to accommodate.
27 school of choice in our school in the 1st 10 minutes today.
I don’t see us reducing staff sizes in the future. Yay!
